Poiesis (ποίησις), for the ancient Greeks, meant making, creating, and bringing into being. Inspired by the Greeks, we see therapy as a kind of narrative poiesis: a practice of self-creating and bringing into being.
When you come to us at the Poiesis Institute, we get to know you and your stories: your background, what you care about, and your life choices. We are concerned with what motivates you for therapy and what kinds of challenges and struggles you are facing. We work with you in the process of narrating, nurturing, and creating yourself in new and thriving ways.
Our approach is broad-minded, and we do not draw from a single source or preconceived model of care. We are open to a wide range of possibilities, tactics, and strategies for self-care, healing, and creative flourishing.
